The Katten José de Diego Legal Clinic was profiled in the May issue of the LAF Newsletter. Thanks to a partnership between Katten's Chicago office and LAF that began in 2013, the firm's pro bono volunteers have had the opportunity to spend each third Wednesday of the month at the José de Diego Community Academy, bringing legal services to low-income residents from the surrounding neighborhoods. In this article, LAF takes a closer look at a day in the life of the clinic—the last day before it closes its doors for the summer months—and reflects on a very successful year.

"The volume of clients we're seeing has gone up. But we've learned to be more efficient, and gotten better at knowing what questions to ask," says Jonathan Baum, Katten's Director of Pro Bono Services and long-time volunteer. "It's my home away from home—I love this place." Katten associate Alyse Sagalchik, the winner of LAF's 2017 Volunteer of the Year award, agrees. "It's a unique opportunity to do what I see as a moral obligation as lawyers—to dedicate our time and resources to help people who otherwise wouldn't have legal representation," she says. "It's doing good for other people, but I also feel good doing it." ("Meet Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP and the De Diego Legal Clinic," May 31, 2017.)
