Michael Callahan, a partner in the firm’s Health Care Practice, was quoted in an article in Medical Staff Briefing on the Joint Commission’s latest draft of proposed standard MS.01.01.01. “It is not a perfect document, but people are tired of dealing with it and want to move on,” Mr. Callahan says. He adds that there are a number of noteworthy changes in the Standard, including the need to develop a conflicts management process between the organized medical staff and the MEC, as well as the standard for what will require that this process be followed, all of which will require Joint Commission accredited hospitals to amend their bylaws.
