(CHICAGO) Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP today delivered more than $15,000 worth of school supplies to Orr Academy High School and Jose de Diego Elementary Community Academy that was the result of a school supply drive held by the firm.

“Our firm has long been committed to education and providing students in Chicago with the tools they need to succeed,” said Vincent A.F. Sergi, National Managing Partner at Katten. “We are thrilled to be able to help these students and provide them with these essential items.”

As part of the donation, every student at de Diego (from Pre-K to 8th grade) will receive four composition books to be used in a yearlong journaling project. Juniors at Orr Academy High School will receive calculators required for their math courses and both schools will receive thumb drives and other assorted school supplies for students at all grade levels.

Donations were made by individual attorneys and other staff at Katten. Additionally, the office supply company Staples generously provided a portion of the composition books and calculators, along with pens, pencils and highlighters for both schools. Chicago Messenger graciously provided delivery services, ensuring that the supplies arrived at the schools.

Katten has recently partnered with de Diego to provide IT assistance, print services and tutoring. Attorneys from the firm teach students about constitutional rights and the court system through the Lawyers in the Classroom program, a yearlong tutoring project that culminates in a mock trial with students acting as lawyers, jurors, judges and witnesses. Former Mayor Richard M. Daley, who is Of Counsel at Katten, has partnered with Orr Academy High School through the Principal for a Day program for many years.
