Several publications, including Crain's Chicago Business, Bloomberg BNA, Law360, The Global Legal Post and the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin, published articles on Katten's announcement naming Roger Furey as the firm's new chairman, effective June 1.

Outgoing chairman Vincent Sergi, who held the leadership role for the last 21 years, told Crain's, "The practice of law is rapidly changing every day, and you want to have strategic thinking and new ideas pouring in." In Law360, Vince stated, "Now I can focus on just special projects for [Katten] and then strategically trying to grow certain offices that we'd like to see grow faster. I'm very excited about it. I think there's a lot for me to do." Regarding Roger, Vince added, "Roger thinks of leadership as service to his partners, the same way he thought about service to his clients. He's going to be excited when they succeed, he's going to help them succeed, and help them grow their practices, help them grow strong client teams."

Roger noted he felt honored by the decision, stating, "Being selected by my partners means that they are putting an incredible amount of trust and faith in me. It's very flattering and it's very humbling and it's something that is going to keep me going. Every day I'm going to be doing everything that I can to repay their trust in making me the chairman."

Expressing pride in Katten's success, Vince told the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin, "I'm happy to be at the point where we can handle any clients' transaction or lawsuit. We've got the [experience] and sophistication to handle anything, and yet we haven't over-expanded. We don't need to have 2,500 lawyers, and we're still poised for terrific growth in our core practice areas."
