The New Joint Commission Standards — MS.1.20

Partner Michael Callahan will speak on a panel for the American Health Lawyers Association Practice Group Teleconferences on "The New Joint Commission Standards — MS.1.20" to discuss what the potential fall-out is for hospital operations and medical staff members since it appears that the Joint Commission has reversed itself in its final ruling.

The new MS.1.20 standard appears to represent a complete reversal of the last proposed version which left the decision up to the medical staff and hospitals on what provisions become part of the by-laws versus the rules, regulations, or policies. The final version requires that all provisions become part of the by-laws, and a separate hearing plan or credentialing policy is no longer acceptable.
